In December, 2005 the United Nations Security Council declared April 4 as the annual International Day for mine awareness and assistance in mine action. On this day, many activities are conducted around the world as a commitment to make efforts to build a world free from explosive ordnance left over by the wars.
To celebrate the day, on April 4 every year, QTMAC coordinates with mine action operators and local government to conduct the event excitingly.
This year, with the theme “ Let’s build a safe world toward peace and development”, QTMAC and the mine action operators organize men’s soccer and women’s volleyball tournaments with participation of staff from the mine action operators. The tournaments attract the participation and encouragement of more than 300 staff from MAG, NPA/RENEW, PTVN, Golden West, PMC EOD team and others.
Right after the opening ceremony, the audience have chance to watch the soccer match between PTVN vs Union of QTMAC. The closing and prize awarding ceremony will be held in the afternoon of April 3, 2023.
According to Director of Quang Tri DoFA, Mrs. Nguyen Trieu Thuong, the mine action operators in Quang Tri have made many efforts to support Quang Tri to address the legacies of war for the past time.
The event is the chance for all the staff of the mine action operators to look back their achievements and further raise their determination to make explosive ordnance no longer a threat to local people’s lives and property.
"It is so a good way to conduct the men’s soccer and women’s volleyball tournaments to celebrate the International Day for mine awareness and assistance in mine action. This is a healthy and useful playground for all the staff of the mine action operators to improve their health, strengthen their solidarity to successfully fulfil their noble duties”, Mrs. Thương affirmed.
