This gathering brought together participants from Vietnam National Mine Action Center (VNMAC), the Department of Foreign Affairs of Quang Tri Province, mine action operators including MAG, NPA, PTVN, CRS, Project RENEW, coordinators and military liaison observers of the operators.
The workshop aims to review the results, evaluate challenges in 2024, and agree on the 2025 operational plan. The participants made many recommendations to improve the quality and efficiency of operations during the implementation in the coming time.
Mr. Dau Phi Truong, Deputy Head of External Affairs (VNMAC) highly appreciated the effectiveness of EORE activities in Quang Tri, especially digital transformation initiatives such as building a digital library, online courses, websites to visualize data on addressing the legacy of explosive remnants of war, and communication campaigns on digital platforms, helping to reach more target populations, contributing to raising awareness of the community.
However, the level of contamination of explosive ordnance in the province is still high, and clearance activities will take many more years to complete. Therefore, EORE activities that help to raise people’s awareness of the dangers of explosive ordnance must be prioritized and implemented regularly to minimize the risk of explosive ordnance accidents.
In 2024, under the direct guidance of the leaders of the Quang Tri Department of Foreign Affairs - the Standing Agency of the Steering Committee, QTMAC, with its assigned functions and tasks, has chaired and coordinated international operators to carry out mine action activities such as survey, clearance, explosive ordnance disposal (EOD), victim assistance and explosive ordnance risk education. These have achieved many impressive results with many activities exceeding the set targets. These efforts not only contribute to ensuring safety for people but also promote local socio-economic development.
On behalf of Quang Tri Mine Action Center (QTMAC), Mr. Dinh Ngoc Vu expressed his deep gratitude and appreciation for the commitment, close cooperation and professional working spirit of mine action operators over the past year. These joint efforts have significantly contributed to making Quang Tri become a "Safe Province".
Sincere thanks to the US Government for funding to improve the capacity for QTMAC as well as supporting mine action activities in Quang Tri province!
