The meeting spotlighted the participation of Ms. Nguyen Trieu Thuong, Director of Quang Trị DOFA, Head of PMU; and representatives of MAG, PTVN, NPA/RENEW. QTMAC Director Mr. Thai Huu Lieu and QTMAC Deputy Director Mr. Dinh Ngoc Vu chaired the meeting with the delegation.
On behalf of QTMAC, Mr. Dinh Ngoc Vu, Deputy Director delivered a presentation on the mine action (MA) overview in Quang Tri, highlighting the outstanding achievements of Quang Tri, and QTMAC’s role in mine action coordination management and monitoring in recent years.
Based on the results of good and effective coordination for past time and the close cooperation between QTMAC and Vietnam National Mine Action Center (VNMAC), international mine action organizations in Quang Tri province, and partners in neighboring provinces, U.S Ambassador to Vietnam Marc E. Knapper congratulated Quang Tri provincial government on its great achievements in addressing war legacies, as well as the province's leading mine action model in Vietnam and vision to set up a regional mine action center. The Ambassador highly appreciated this important partnership relation and he affirmed that he would work to seek for more support from the U.S Government and people in the field.
Previously, the Ambassador visited to activity demonstration surveying, clearing and demolition activities of humanitarian demining organizations in Quang Tri; attended the inauguration ceremony of the Kindergarten in Trieu Dai commune, Trieu Phong district sponsored by ODC. In the early afternoon, Ambassador Marc Evans Knapper visited the National Cemetery of Road 9 (Ward 4, Dong Ha, Quang Tri). This is the first time he has visited a national cemetery in Vietnam and also the first time a US Ambassador has visited the 9th Street National Cemetery.
